New Dawn Energy Solutions is proud to have delivered a landmark solar energy system for the Rouge Valley Community Recreation Centre in Scarborough, Ontario—a leading example of how clean energy can power the future of municipal infrastructure.
As the City of Toronto’s first net-zero community centre with an aquatic facility, and the first facility in Ontario to achieve Net Zero Carbon Building Certification, this project reflects a major step forward in sustainable community development.
The installation features an integrated solar parking canopy system and rooftop photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) system, providing approximately 950 kW DC of renewable energy capacity. By maximizing both rooftop and parking-area space, the system helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower long-term operating costs, and support the facility’s ambitious net-zero energy goals.

System Configuration
Solar Canopy System :
The parking canopy installation consists of 1,385 LONGi bifacial solar modules rated at 540W each. Installed across six solar canopy structures, the system generates clean electricity while providing shaded parking for visitors and staff.
Installed Capacity: 747.9 kW DC
Rooftop PVT System :
The rooftop system utilizes 472 DualSun hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) modules rated at 425W each. These advanced panels generate both electricity and thermal energy, increasing overall energy utilization and supporting the building’s heating requirements.
Installed Capacity: 200.6 kW DC
Inverter Technology :
The system is powered by fifteen Solis grid-tied string inverters ranging from 25 kW to 60 kW. The inverters provide high-efficiency power conversion, integrated safety features, and real-time performance monitoring.

The combined rooftop and solar canopy installation was designed to maximize renewable energy generation without increasing the site footprint. The system contributes to the facility’s Net Zero and Zero Carbon performance targets while delivering long-term environmental and financial benefits.
